Japan crowd hotspots by time of day: ask whether hourly evidence exists
Kyoto publishes date- and weather-sensitive hourly five-level forecasts for selected Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama locations. Tokyo and Kawaguchiko do not have an equivalent destination-wide series in the sources reviewed here.
Evidence table
| Place | Evidence | Planning decision |
|---|---|---|
| Fushimi Inari | Kyoto hourly forecast; official public-transport advice | Start early, then adjust to your date. |
| Arashiyama bamboo grove | Covered by Kyoto's tool | Make it the first popular stop. |
| Sensoji | Main Hall 06:00–17:00 Apr–Sep; 06:30–17:00 Oct–Mar | Opening period is an option; outside hours does not mean Main Hall access. |
| Shibuya | No official crossing-wide hourly series found | Weekday morning is an estimate. |
| Kawaguchiko | Separate attraction and event hours | Arrive early; check weather and events. |
Gion photography: do not turn a private-lane sign into a citywide fine
Southern Gion's official community guidance says not to enter private roads and to follow photography signs. The often repeated JPY10,000 figure is not a universal Kyoto City statutory photography fine. Trespass, harassment and other conduct can carry separate legal consequences.
Opening hours are not crowd data
Sensoji's official hours tell you when the Main Hall opens, not the busiest hour. Shibuya facilities have their own hours, but those do not measure crossing crowds. Kawaguchiko is a dispersed area whose weather, buses and events change demand. First avoid high-pressure dates with the crowd guide, then compare seasonality in the comfort calendar.
